Running Moccasins

Running Moccasins by Karen Dee Musson is a historical fiction novel set within a Lakota Sioux camp, where the lives of Chief White Horse, his wife Prairie Dawn, and his brother Koawa unfold against a backdrop of survival and cultural tension. The story begins when the tribe rescues Roger, a gravely injured white man—an act of compassion that soon brings danger as the U.S. Army begins searching for him, threatening the safety of the entire camp.

As the narrative deepens, personal relationships take center stage. Koawa finds love with Sunflower, leading to marriage and a sense of hope, while Prairie Dawn wrestles with jealousy and inner turmoil that begins to strain her relationship with White Horse. At the same time, White Horse is burdened by grief over the loss of his son and growing anger toward the Army, which fuels his desire for retaliation.
